Wakeman Review (2026): Pricing, Minutes, Emergency Handling & Jobber Booking

An AI answering service for trade shops, with published overage rates, a spend cap and a live on-call emergency workflow. Here's what it costs in a busy month.

Before you rely on this: we compiled it from public vendor pages in October 2026 and haven't used these tools on live calls yet. Confirm current prices with the vendor. How we make money.

What Wakeman is

Wakeman (wakeman.ai) is an AI answering service for plumbing, HVAC and electrical shops. It also lists set-ups for roofing, restoration and more than twenty other trades, all at the same price. It answers the calls you miss in your business name, tells callers they're talking to an AI and that the call is recorded, works out what's wrong, checks the address, and texts you the job. Once you switch booking on, it can also book the job, including into Jobber.

Two things set it apart from the cheaper tools on our list. First, it's opinionated about emergencies: gas, fire, live wires and flooding trigger a safety message and a call to your on-call phone while the caller is still on the line. Second, its billing has guardrails: spam is never billed, you set a monthly spend limit, and it publishes its overage rates.

After Hours$149$1,490 (two months free)300 min59¢/minOnly while you're closed (nights, weekends)
Front Desk$349$3,490750 min39¢/minAny call you miss, day or night (Wakeman's recommended plan)

What a busy month costs

Illustrative math, not data: these are our example call volumes, not Wakeman data. Plug in your own minutes from your phone log.
Example monthAfter Hours ($149, 300 min)Front Desk ($349, 750 min)Dispatch ($829, 2,000 min)
250 billable minutes$149$349$829
600 minutes (busy week in a freeze)$149 + 300 × $0.59 = $326$349$829
1,200 minutes (heat wave)$149 + 900 × $0.59 = $680$349 + 450 × $0.39 = $524.50$829
2,500 minutes$149 + 2,200 × $0.59 = $1,447$349 + 1,750 × $0.39 = $1,031.50$829 + 500 × $0.29 = $974

Rule of thumb from that math: if you regularly go well past 750 minutes, Front Desk's lower overage rate beats After Hours. Past roughly 2,000 minutes, Dispatch wins. Set a spend limit either way so a surge month can't surprise you.

Features (from Wakeman's site)

Emergency handling

For gas, fire, live wires and flooding, Wakeman says it tells the caller to get out and call 911, then rings whoever is on call right away. Its own wording for a gas call: "If you smell gas, leave the building right now. Don't use any light switches or appliances inside. Call 911 and your gas utility from outside." Wakeman is explicit that it's "a safety net, not an emergency service," and that it can mishear, so review summaries and recordings.

Trial, refund and cancellation

Setup checklist

  1. Enter your business number or website; Wakeman looks you up on Google and drafts how it would answer.
  2. Edit what it says: services, service area, after-hours trip fee (only if you want it quoted), and your emergency list.
  3. Add your on-call phone(s) and decide what rings them.
  4. Set a monthly spend limit before forwarding anything.
  5. Forward missed calls with your carrier's code. Start with After Hours if you're nervous.
  6. Call it yourself: a burst pipe, a gas smell, a price shopper, a returning customer.
  7. Leave booking off for the first week; turn it on after the summaries look right.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

Pros (from vendor info)

  • Clear, published overage rates and a spend cap
  • Spam calls never billed
  • Strong emergency workflow (rings on-call during the call)
  • Jobber booking with address checking
  • 14-day / 500-minute trial with no card, plus first-month refund
  • No setup fee, no minimum term, cancel online

Cons / watch-outs

  • Highest entry price of the trade tools we cover
  • Minute-based: storm or freeze months cost more on lower plans
  • Housecall Pro not generally available; ServiceTitan not supported
  • Booking windows are set in Wakeman, not read from your full Jobber calendar
  • Bilingual support not stated on the pages we checked

Buy it if: you pay for leads (Google Ads, Local Services Ads), you're on Jobber, or you want emergency calls to ring the on-call tech live instead of becoming an email.

Skip it if: you get a handful of simple calls a week. Wakeman itself says Jobber's own receptionist or a general AI receptionist may be a reasonable answer for low, simple call volume. Also skip it if you run Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan and need booking today, or need Spanish intake confirmed in writing.
