RatedByIndustry reviews software for specific trades, starting with home services: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing and more. Our goal is simple: help you pick the right tool for your kind of business, with real prices and no runaround.
Our ratings are researched, not hands-on tested, unless a review says otherwise. For every tool, we check:
Every review shows the date we last checked it. If we ever test a tool hands-on, with real calls or real jobs, we'll label that review "Hands-on tested" and explain what we did.
Each tool gets a score from 1 to 5 in six categories:
Each category is scored against a fixed checklist, so two tools are always judged the same way. The overall score is a weighted average, rounded to one decimal.
Must-have features (Features category): 24/7 answering; Keep your existing number (no porting); Captures caller name, number, address and issue; Instant text/SMS lead alerts to the business; Live transfer or emergency escalation during the call; Appointment booking or self-scheduling; Spanish or bilingual answering; Call transcripts or recordings available to the business; Integration with a field-service tool (Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan); Follow-up after the job (such as review requests).
Industry fit: Marketed to home-service contractors / this trade; At least one trade-specific feature documented; Published integration with Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan; Trade-specific examples, demo calls or case studies published; Critical workflow documented: live transfer or emergency escalation to on-call during the call.
Value & pricing: Prices for all self-serve plans published; Entry price at or below the median entry price of the rest of our comparison set; No usage overages, or overage rates published per unit; Entry plan does the core job by itself (answers 24/7 and delivers the lead); At least half of the must-have features available on the entry plan. Current comparison set: Wakeman $149, OnCrew $49, Jobholler $85, OrangeChat $49 per month entry price.
Ease of setup: Self-serve signup and checkout (no required sales call); No number porting, hardware or on-site install required; Documented to work with cell, landline and VoIP; Vendor publishes setup instructions or help docs; G2 or Capterra ease-of-use rating 4.3+ with at least 10 reviews.
Trial, terms & support: Free trial of at least 7 days, or a free plan; Trial does not require a credit card; Self-serve cancellation documented; Support channels and hours published for the entry plan; Monthly billing with no annual contract required, stated on the vendor site.
User reviews: review-count-weighted average across G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and Google listings with at least 10 reviews each: 4.6+ = 5, 4.3–4.59 = 4, 4.0–4.29 = 3, 3.5–3.99 = 2, below 3.5 = 1. Fewer than 50 reviews in total caps the score at 4. We never show other sites' ratings as our own stars.
Math: category score = 1 + 4 × (checks met ÷ checks verified), rounded to the nearest 0.5.
If we can't confirm something, we don't guess. A category without enough verified information is marked "Insufficient data". If too much is missing, we show "Score pending" instead of an overall score (we publish an overall score only when the scored categories cover at least 85% of the weight, including Industry fit and Features). If a vendor doesn't publish a feature, we don't give credit for it until they do.
A tool earns "Top pick for [industry]" only if it has the highest score among at least three tools we've compared for that trade, scores at least 4.0 overall, has every category scored, and doesn't score below 3 anywhere. If no tool meets that bar, we don't name a top pick.
Software prices and features change often. We re-check every tool at least every 90 days, and right away when a price or plan changes. Score changes are logged.
Some links on our site are affiliate links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That never affects our scores or rankings. Our scoring checklist doesn't include whether a tool has an affiliate program, and tools without one are rated exactly the same way. Vendors can't pay for a score, a badge or a better position. See our affiliate disclosure.
If a price, feature or detail is wrong, tell us at [email protected], with a link if you have one. We'll check it and update the review.
